Várzea de Trevões situa-se a 11km da sede de concelho e a 82km de Viseu, seu distrito. Fica localizado entre as ribeiras de Távora e do Torto. Com a nova reorganização administrativa do território Várzea de Trevões, neste momento, pertence à freguesia de S. João da Pesqueira.		Várzea de Trevões is located 11 km from the county seat and 82 km from Viseu, its district. It is located between the Távora and Torto streams. With the new administrative reorganization of the territory, Várzea de Trevões, at this moment, belongs to the parish of S. João da Pesqueira.
História		History
A origem desta povoação remonta ao século XII, sendo pois anterior à fundação da própria nacionalidade portuguesa. A presença dos povos primitivos concretizou-se em “palas” (abrigos rupestres), “castelos” e diversos castros, um dos quais deve ter coroado o cume do alto e arredondado monte dos Santos Mártires. Pertença do termo de Trevões e, consequentemente, da Casa dos Braganças, o seu repovoamento foi levado a cabo por D. Fernão Mendes, marido de Dona Sancha Henriques e cunhado de D. Afonso Henriques e pelos bispos lamecenses. Em 1159, o rei atribui ao território o seu primeiro foral. Das inquirições de D. Dinis, de 1290, consta que “toda a vila de Trevões e Várzea, que jaz em seu termo é da Sé de Lamego, a quem doaram os Braganções”, sendo o mesmo confirmado pelas inquirições de 1300. Até ao século XVIII, era chamada “Várzea de Trovões” ou simplesmente “Trovões”. Em termos administrativos, Várzea e Trevões eram vilas independentes, até que o concelho de Várzea foi extinto aquando da reforma de 1836 e anexado ao de Trevões, entretanto também eliminado em 1855. Passou, então, a integrar o concelho de São João da Pesqueira.		The origin of this village dates back at least to the twelfth century, and it is earlier than the founding of the Portuguese nation itself. The presence of primitive peoples materialized in "flaps" (rock shelters), "castles" and several forts, one of which should have crowned the high ridge and rounded hill of the Santos Mártires. Belonging to Trevões and, consequently, to the Bragança family, its resetlement was carried out by King Fernando Mendes, the husband of Dona Sancha Henriques and brother of D. Afonso Henriques and the bishops of Lamego. In 1159, the king gives the territory its first charter. The inquiries of D. Dinis, 1290, states that "the whole village of Trevões and Várzea, belongs to the Cathedral of Lamego, who donated the “Braganções", being the same confirmed by the inquiries of 1300. By the XVIII century, it was called "Várzea de Trovões" or simply "Trovões". Administratively, Várzea and Trevões were independent villages up to the council of Várzea which was extinguished during the reform of 1836 and attached to Trevões, but eliminated in 1855. Then it became part of the municipality of São João da Pesqueira.
Património		Patrimony
A primitiva Igreja Matriz foi construída em 1708, mediante licença do bispo de D. Manuel Tomás de Almeida. Contudo foi abandonada e, em 1760, ergueu-se a actual igreja como capela, que se tornou “numa das mais belas da diocese de Lamego”. Existem ainda a capela de Mártir São Sebastião, a capela de Santa Cruz, A Casa dos Franco, o Pelourinho, o Cruzeiro e a Fonte Romana.		The Church, was built in 1708, under license from the Bishop of Manuel Tomás de Almeida. However, it was abandoned and in 1760, it was built the current church and chapel, "one of the most beautiful of the diocese of Lamego". There are also the Chapel of the Martir S. Sebastião, the chapel of Santa Cruz, the Casa dos Franco, the Pelourinho, the Cruzeiro and Roman Fountain.

O orago da freguesia é o Mártir S. Sebastião, realizando-se a festa em sua honra em 20 de Janeiro. Festeja-se também a Santa Cruz, a 3 de Maio e o Divino Espirito Santo, a 19 de Junho.		The parish's patron saint is the Martir S. Sebastião, and the party in its honour is on 20th January. It also celebrated the Santa Cruz, 3rd May and the Divino Espirito Santo, on 19th June.

As especialidades gastronómicas de Várzea de Trevões são: a batata cozida com couve e bacalhau, arroz de polvo, cozido à portuguesa e cabrito assado. Como doces típicos da freguesia destacam-se as rabanadas, o pão-de-ló e as filhós.		The culinary specialties of Várzea de Trevões are: baked potato with cabbage and cod, octopus rice, Portuguese stew and roast lamb. The typical sweets of the parish are the french toast, sponge cake and fritters.
